About This Course

During the morning session (2 hours), students will prepare their Leaving Certificate oral conversation under the guidance of Kate - an experienced Spanish Teacher and Oral Examiner. She will provide students with advice and support in how to maximise their grade in this part of the exam. The course will include notes on key topics such as: 1. El español y la cultura española – Spanish traditions, festivals, cultural differences, and comparisons between Spanish and Irish culture. 2. La vida de los jóvenes y la tecnología – The impact of social media, AI, screen time, and technology on young people. 3. Trabajo y dinero – Student jobs, salaries, financial independence, and future career aspirations. 4. El futuro y mis planes – University, travel, ambitions, and future goals, with a focus on advanced grammar structures (future, subjunctive, conditional). 5. Noticias y temas actuales – Key current affairs, including climate change, the cost of living, and global issues. Students will also cover: - Key vocabulary and high-scoring phrases for each topic, including time-buying expressions and ways to ask the examiner to repeat a question. - Advanced grammar structures (subjunctive, conditional, idiomatic expressions) to help students elevate their responses. - Guided exercises to help students develop structured, detailed answers. - Space for students to personalise their responses and refine their “hook” – an engaging, unique angle to make their answers stand out. During the afternoon session (2 hours including a 15 minute private interview), students will carry out a practice exam with Kate (1-to-1) and receive feedback on their progress along with any finishing touches that should be made to their preparation. Students will then work on this feedback in the remainder of the course. Due to the intimate and personalised nature of this course - places are strictly limited to 8 students.
