Service Description
This Leaving Certificate Higher Level Irish course aims to develop a high level of competence in the Irish language across the skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. It builds on the foundations of the Junior Cycle and prepares students for effective communication and critical engagement with Irish. Students will study a range of prescribed literary texts, including poetry, prose, drama, selected poems, and short stories. A significant emphasis is placed on oral proficiency, with 40% of the final grade awarded for the Oral Irish exam. The course also includes aural comprehension, written composition, and reading comprehension, encouraging students to express themselves fluently and creatively while deepening their understanding of Irish culture, society, and identity. The course supports students in becoming confident and capable speakers and writers of Irish, with the ability to engage with complex themes and ideas through the language.
